1. Why does a high-school student need Apps4College®?

It is easy today for a student to get lost in the shuffle. According to the 2025 State of College Admission Report published by the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC), "survey data indicates an average secondary school student-to-counselor ratio, including part-time staff, of 246 to 1." At Apps4College®, the ratio of participant to instructor is seldom more than 1 to 1. Each student receives personalized instruction.

2. What do students encounter in the college application process today?

This can be answered in two words: intense competition. Among the most selective colleges in the country, the number of applications has risen significantly, leading to lower and lower admission rates. To name just a few colleges, in 2025, the acceptance ratio at Harvard was 5%, Yale at 6%, Dartmouth at 8%, William and Mary at 34%, and UNC at 23%. Texas A&M received over 79,470 applications in 2025 and enrolled approximately 9,600 freshmen. Forty-nine percent of this same Aggie class comprised students who had graduated in the top 10% of their high school class. The University of Texas received over 95,000 applications in 2025 and enrolled only 8500 students in the Class of 2029. It is getting increasingly difficult to be admitted to top-ranked colleges and universities.

4. Since there are many things I can't control in the college selection process, what can I do to ensure that I have college options?

First, take a strong college-preparatory course of study throughout high school, and do well in your courses. Second, standardized test scores matter. Other components in the application includes recommendations from teachers and counselors, the student résumé (list of extracurricular involvement), and the essay. What you tell a college about yourself is the one thing you can control, and it is the part of the application in which you can give the reader insight into how you think, how you write, and who you are as a person.
